C-Hawq is a collaboration of businesses specializing in publicly funded projects for municipality, county, and state governments. For reasons unknown to me, the City granted these folks a Special Meeting, (wow!), wherein they presented an unsolicited (?) public-private proposal to dredge our canals and drop the spoils close by, (around a thousand feet or so) to form small “islands,” (read obstacles), throughout our canals. They said these “islands” will, in two years or so, contain trees and shrubs. Total cost? Not to exceed sixty million dollars!Yeah, you read that right, $60,000,000. Oh and BTW, the article said that our crack City Attorney, Mr. A. Gabriel, advises that C-Hawq will pay for an agency to tell us that their proposal is OK.
Missing in the article: What exactly is the problem this “fixes”? What made these C-Hawq people so special as to warrant a “Special Meeting”?
Only three out of our seven councilors voted against going forward with this project, suggesting once again that ordinary common sense still doesn’t form a City Council majority.
