We love Marco Island. We live here year-round and plan to stay here indefinitely.
We don’t have many grievances, but the ones we do have are serious and, more importantly, long-lasting. They just won’t go away or even get seriously addressed.
Noise is one big problem. Voters overwhelmingly passed an ordinance to regulate Short-Term Rentals, yet the City found a way to ignore it.
Water quality in our canals is another. Lots of talk about fixing it, but nothing actually happens.
The underlying problem is, incredibly to us, the City Council’s persistence in ignoring the will of the people. The voters, who are residents and taxpayers, are heard but not heeded. Instead, City Council pays attention only to commercial interests and, even worse, their own self-interest. Commercial development next to the cemetery, cruise ships coming to Rose Marina, and we are expected to pay for the dredging! It’s outrageous! This pattern is very consistent and unmistakable over the last few years.
I have met with Dennis Bartolucci and am convinced that not only will he participate, he will take a leadership role in breaking this pattern. He has already thoroughly immersed himself in the rules of Marco government, especially including taxation, the field of his professional career. He is very well-qualified and prepared.
Marco Island is a fine place to live, but it won’t stay that way if we as voters don’t take an active role in preserving its best qualities. Vote for Dennis to make it happen.
