Trump Tariff Goals

Posted

I agree with President Trump on reciprocal tariffs with other countries and it is about time. It is the common sense approach. But here is where I disagree – how the tariffs apply to the consumers of the United States of America. The exporter of the product is charged a 25% tariff on the product and now the American consumer has to pay for the original cost of the product plus the 25% tariff. Where is the common sense approach to this equation? The tariff penalty applies to the country that produced the product and the American consumer has to pay a penalty to purchase the product. Are we crazy!

The tariff charge on imported products should be deposited into the Federal Treasury, not penalize the American consumer. In the past, America used the tariff revenue to fund the Federal Government before we implemented a Federal Income Tax. Most recently, President Trump mentioned we do away with the income tax and fund the government with tariffs. No republican House of Representative or Senator has expressed this position as to why we would penalize the American consumer with the cost of the tariff. Do what is best for the American consumer, don’t punish them.
