I was recently reminded of 2 Timothy 3:1-5, which states, “But mark this: there will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers, of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God — having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.” I feel it is time for those who love Jesus to put on their armor, lean into the gifts of the Spirit, and shift spiritual atmospheres. It is time for the church to go back to its roots outlined in the book of Acts and take course correction. May Holy Spirit bring unity to The Church.
Have we fallen prey to the self-centered, greed-driven, retaliatory atmosphere present in the world today? Are we making idols of politicians and celebrities instead of elevating the name of Jesus? How many are willing to wear a red “MAGA” hat or fly a Trump flag versus items adorning the name, image, or cross of Jesus? How much time are we, and the political leaders we elect, spending in prayer seeking God’s direction and guidance in the critical decisions we’re called to make? These are a few of the questions I ask myself as well and am thankful that God offers us daily repentance and forgiveness. May we be transformed, refined, and challenged this Easter.
