The Branding of the USA

Posted

Donald Trump is using the presidency not to serve the country, but to plaster his name across it.
At the Kennedy Center, his hand-picked board voted to rename the building the “TrumpKennedy Center,” literally mounting “Donald J. Trump” on a memorial created by Congress to honor John F. Kennedy. In Washington, he rebranded the Pentagon back toward “Department of War,” installed “Secretary of War” in place of “Secretary of Defense,” and put his name on the U.S. Institute of Peace building, calling it “The Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace”, so he appears as both war leader and peacemaker on the very buildings taxpayers fund.
He has announced a “Trumpclass” of battleships—the “Golden Fleet”—with USS Defiant as the first hull, even though naval strategists call biggun battleships outdated, budget-busting symbols rather than serious defense. He has ordered federal agencies to relabel the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America,” as if renaming a body of water could rewrite geography and international usage.
Most brazenly, he launched an “official” $TRUMP meme coin, with hundreds of millions of tokens kept in Trumpcontrolled wallets, then promoted it from the bully pulpit while small investors piled in and later saw their savings evaporate.
This is not patriotism. It is personal branding and selfenrichment draped in flags and eagles. In a democracy, public institutions, symbols, and even our maps should not be billboards for one man’s ego.
