What matters greatly to me in local government is not whether I agree with every decision someone makes, but how that person approaches an issue before making it.
Good local leadership is not about agreement; it is about judgment and process.
I have known Darrin Palumbo for the better part of six years, and during that time I have had the opportunity to see how he thinks and acts. He does his homework. He asks questions. And, importantly, he takes the time to understand different sides of an issue before reaching a conclusion.
I saw that firsthand when I served as Chairman of the Marco Island Beautification Advisory Committee. Darrin helped advance initiatives intended to improve the quality of life and appearance of our community. He listened, he engaged and he helped.
We will not always agree with every decision made by every member of City Council. Nor should we expect to. The councilors we elect should demonstrate integrity, sound judgment, preparation, an open mind, and a willingness to carefully weigh competing perspectives before making a decision.
In the six years I have known Darrin, those are qualities I have consistently seen in him.
