Response to Recent Letter to the Editor

A letter in the January 8-14, 2026 issue brought shame to our community by equating people who committed terrorist acts on 9/11 with a totally different person democratically elected to serve as mayor of New York - solely on the basis of religious affiliation and practice. This “guilt by association” casts fear and suspicion on unrelated people and is often the fuel for Islamophobia, antisemitism, and other forms of religious and secular persecution. I know I am not alone in refusing to remain silent after reading this kind of public expression of prejudice.
