Caxambas Park is a wonderful little park on Marco Island ESPECIALLY NOW that no commercial businesses are allowed in the park!
I remember before the hurricane damage that closed the park, Marco Island residents and visitors could hardly get into the park due to the commercial kayak and commercial jet ski companies with their large trailers crowding out Marco residents and even parking in the area where the burrowing owls are.
I remember when some rude commercial boat captains crowded the docks at Caxambas with people paying for boat rides. Local fishermen were pushed aside.
Recently, the Marco Town Council discussed allowing some commercial activity back to Caxambas. They said it was allowed since 1977. No one enforced the no commercial
activity, therefore Caxambas Park deteriorated into a commercial monstrosity, crowding out local Marco Island residents and visitors who wanted to take their own boats or kayaks out. Residents and visitors could not enjoy a day or evening watching the dolphins because of the commercial activity that was allowed, even though the town ordinance said No Commercial Activity at Caxambas.
Please do not allow Caxambas Park to deteriorate to the commercial mess it was before the hurricane damage. Continue to enforce the NO Commercial Activity at Caxambas Park. Keep Caxambas Park the jewel it is for the residents and visitors of Marco Island.
