Mr. Shaw’s column on vaccinations and Secretary Kennedy made a very important point. Vaccinations have saved millions of lives and prevented human suffering for many years. As a child, I dreaded and cried when I got the “big needle” polio vaccines. But my mother was happy to make sure I got them, since she witnessed the ravages of polio in her Midwest farm community in the 1930s and 40s. Many other diseases have since been controlled or eliminated by highly successful vaccination programs.
President Trump (45) made an aggressive and bipartisan effort to accelerate the COVID vaccine program when he realized the impact it could have on saving lives. He relied on advice from his chosen scientists at the NIH and CDC. Unfortunately, some of that advice was wrong and influenced by money and power. What is best for “the people” is not always what is best for corporate profits. Corrupt politics need to stay out of our health care system.
Making America Healthy Again is a much-needed campaign, when so many American lifestyles and habits lead to obesity and chronic diseases. Our food and medical industries need to have standards based on the old medical maxim of weighing the risks vs the benefits! Vaccinations are a “no-brainer” when thoughtfully and carefully implemented. They save lives!
