Division has to Stop

Posted

I am writing to address the continued division among City Council members, particularly the actions of Councilors Brechnitz, Gray, and Goehler. It is clear there is an agenda at play regarding the final seat appointment. Councilor Gray’s statement to the city attorney, “With a fourth vote, we can put just about anything through,” reveals his intentions. This is not about unity or what’s best for Marco Island, but rather what Gray believes is best.

While differing opinions are natural, the growing tensions are harming the Council’s primary responsibility: serving the people of Marco Island. The Council should not prioritize any one member’s interests but rather focus on what is truly best for the residents and taxpayers.

A special election costing $55,000 is not in the best interest of the community. It not only wastes taxpayer money but also exposes the city to potential lawsuits.

It is essential that the City Council work together to meet the needs of our community and restore public trust. The Council must adhere to the city’s charter and the rule of law, rather than personal agendas or assumptions of what is best.

By respecting the Charter and the law, the new Council can move forward in a way that benefits all of Marco Island. I urge Council Members Gray and Goehler to honor their Oath of Office and work together, keeping the best interests of our community at the forefront.
