“Cause it’s the Dog Park” 

For a number of years now, I have been riding my bike through Mackle Park and I am always impressed with our community that supports and maintains such a well-planned dog park. I am a dog owner and lover of dogs! But I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The public pressure for lower taxes but increased services makes community budgets very difficult. Marco Island is a utopian community with high expectations. Still, I was very confused when I read the letter from Mr. Robinson about “Dog Park Safety.” I cannot understand why anyone would be dissatisfied with such a wonderful community facility, such as the Mackle Park dog park,until I recently saw the Progressive Insurance advertisement “CAUSE IT’S THE DOG PARK.” Now I understand the expectations of some dog owners. Progressive markets insurance to dog owners in case their dog gets sick or injured at the dog park. This should be extended to dog owners themselves, in case they hurt their ankle by stepping in a hole their dog digs, or in case they get too much sun from a broken umbrella.  

So, if you're wondering why the dog park doesn’t have a perfectly manicured lawn, or matching umbrellas with tables for socializing, you might watch the Progressive commercial with Mara…” CAUSE IT’S THE DOG PARK.”
