Winn-Dixie “Give A Little Feed A Lot” Bags For the Holidays

Posted

Our Daily Bread Food Pantry (ODBFP) distribution at St. Mark’s was joined by Joe Bensen from Marco’s Winn-Dixie in December. A big thanks to Abi Serrano, General Manager of the local Marco Winn Dixie, Leslie Litteral, Front of Store Manager, along with Joe Bensen, who made sure additional bags of groceries were given out to families for the holidays. This was made possible by an in-store promotion that allowed customers to buy a bag for Christmas. Pantry volunteers passed out their grocery bags along with Winn-Dixie bags. Over twenty bags and eight Christmas hams, along with milk, cereal, eggs, and a beautiful bag of produce, were distributed.

According to Ron McClay, a volunteer for ODBFB, they served almost 1,600 families for Christmas on theirSaturday, December 20th,food distribution at the San Marco location, which eclipsed last year’s Christmas distribution numbers. This year, each family also received a large roasting chicken or a ham.

According to ODBFP, “Every day, families in our community grapple with tough decisions. Should they buy groceries or pay rent? Should they spend money on medicine or ensure there’s dinner on the table? Our Daily Bread Food Pantryfirmly believes that no neighbor should ever experience hunger, and with your support, we can ensure they don’t.”

Demand for services has surged as the number of families served has increased from last year’s numbers – and not just during the holidays. The Pantry’s signature Saturday delivery rose 20% with families seeking assistance. According to ODBFP, any donation, no matter the size, creates a significant impact. Consider becoming a monthly donor. A gift of $20 provides 16 meals for a family of four.  You can also sponsor a pallet of food or host a food drive by placing a collection bin in your business or organization. The staff from ODBFP is grateful for the continued support from the community and for helping to nourish our neighbors in need.
