Senior Jacob Watt represented Marco Island Academy proudly, competing in the long jump competition at the Florida High School Athletic Association track and field championships at UNF-Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville on Saturday, May 10.
Watt finished 10th in the long jump with a jump of 6.54 meters. Justin Woulard of Melbourne Central Catholic won with a jump of 7.10 meters.
Watt is the school record holder in the long jump with a jump of 6.57. Jacob’s older brother Johnathan holds the school record in the triple jump.
"Jakee has accomplished a lot in his track career,” said Jerry Miller, athletic director at MIA. "He was a regional qualifier in the 110 hurdles as a sophomore, and a regional qualifier in both long and triple jump his junior and senior years. He won the Paradise Coast Athletic Conference in all three of those events as a junior and again won both long and triple this year. This all culminated in the exciting opportunity to compete at the state meet in long jump this year. I know he was a little bummed that he didn’t quite have his best jump this past Saturday, but placing number 10 in the state of Florida Class 1A is definitely something he should be proud of."
