The United Church of Marco Island Bargain Basket is celebrating fifty years of service to the Marco Island community. Starting as the proverbial “trunk show” by women of the church who sold donated items from the trunk of their cars in the church parking lot after worship service, the Bargain Basket has outgrown the current store at 350 Bald Eagle Drive and is planning to build an addition to the store and add a 34 space parking lot.
In 2023, the United Church of Marco Island purchased the parcel of land adjacent to the store. The addition to the store will improve the donation drop-off area with a one-way donation lane that allows donors to safely pull off Herb Savage Way to deliver their donations, while volunteers receiving donations will no longer have to dodge traffic taking care of donors. The donation processing area will also be increased in size to provide the volunteers with more space to prepare the donations for display in the store, and the store will benefit from additional showroom space.
The new parking lot will provide customers with expanded parking and easier access to the store entrance, and the parking lot will have access from Bald Eagle Drive and Herb Savage Way, as well.
The planned expansion project should be under construction in late 2025, with a completion anticipated in the Fall of 2026.
Two hundred and fifty volunteers from Marco Island and East Naples receive, process, and display donations while serving Bargain Basket customers. The United Church of Marco Island Missions Committee identifies worthy programs and organizations on Marco Island and Collier County to receive charitable contributions from the proceeds of the Bargain Basket.
The Bargain Basket is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and closed on Sunday.
