The Coconuts

Posted

Coconuts have always been special. Wherever coconuts flourish, balmy breezes blow and the whisper of waves always tells a tale of adventure. Romance is certainly a cousin of adventure, and mysteries are always the children of forgotten voyages. Queries that are lost on the high seas, however, often find answers where coconuts grow on sandy palm beaches.

Many believe the coconut palm is one of the most exotic, beautiful, and inspiring trees in the world. When summer arrives in the tropics, the palms with the coconuts are happy to embrace the rain and the sun with equal delight.

When the coconuts began, they were unique and set aside in the vast southern sea of the Pacific Ocean. They were always peaceful and serene and happy to grow and prosper freely. The only problem for the coconuts was space. There was simply not enough room for all of the coconuts.

The circle of life for the coconuts will forever be endless. A parent palm will sprout from a coconut that is bursting with life, and as the palm that will become a parent grows, the arms of her fronds reach toward the sun. As the coconuts flourish, a grove becomes a stand, and a throng becomes a crowd, all because the coconuts are bursting with exuberance and enthusiasm.

After years of growing, falling, bursting, and sprouting, living space for the South Pacific coconuts became rare. This was when the waves began to whisper, the wind began to blow, and one by one, the coconuts who were crowded began to float and sail to find a new adventure.

In the vast realm of the Southern Pacific Ocean, the coconuts floated. They bobbed, they soaked, and they sailed with the ever-present wind. After a time, when all the coconuts were ready to burst with the exuberance and enthusiasm they carried inside, the wind, who was always a friend, began pushing the coconuts to new islands that were in need of romance and adventure.

As the seasons spun into years and as the coconuts continued to flourish, island after island became touched with the bursting life that was within the palms and the coconuts. After the vast migration and the incredible armada of coconuts, not a single Pacific island did not have the palms to greet the morning, embrace the evening, and thrive and flourish in the sun and the rain.

This was the time when the humans were also out of living space and on a never-ending quest for room to grow. This was because the people were also flourishing, and as they began to emerge in the ships that were also helpless before the wind, the coconuts were waiting.

When the men saw the coconuts and saw that everything about the coconuts was full of romance and adventure, the women began to gather the children of the palms and place the coconuts aboard the sailing ships and drive them before the wind.

The men were more often than not foolish and tried to force the coconuts to grow where the sun and the rain could not have them thrive. Some of the land was bleak, barren, and needed to the coconuts to thrive, but the enthusiasm and exuberance inside the coconuts could not emerge in the lands where the water became white and could not flow freely.

Finally, the men who began to learn from the women began to understand the coconuts were special. This is because, wherever coconuts flourish, balmy breezes blow, the whisper of waves always tell a tale of adventure and romance, and even of sailing ship mysteries that might have been lost on the high seas.

As the coconuts began to travel with the humans who were driving the ships, the life that was bursting within the coconuts began to arrive in a new land of islands the people were calling the Caribbean. After only a short time, with the help of the women who loved the coconuts, the islands in another vast southern ocean began to need more space. This was when the humans made more ships and found more ways to help the coconuts thrive. After a few more years of falling, bursting, growing, and thriving in the sun and sailing in the wind that was greater than ever before, not a single island around the belly of the earth did not share the space with the coconuts.

Soon the coconuts became famous. Even in the land of bleak and barren weather where the water falls white upon the ground, the coconuts were legendary because wherever coconuts flourish, balmy breezes blow; the whisper of waves will always tell a tale of adventure and romance and even of mysteries of sailing ships upon the high seas.

As the women and the men continued to love the coconuts, and as the women bid the men to build more ships to carry more coconuts, a small ship became heavy and overloaded with the coconut life that was ready to burst. The ship sailed, but when the wind and the friend of the coconuts became a storm and then the men and women named the storm, the little wooden ship broke into pieces. This was when the people swam to shore alongside the floating coconuts and the sandy shore became Palm Beach.

After many more seasons, the Mackle brothers came to Marco and brought the coconuts. This is because wherever coconuts flourish, balmy breezes blow; the whisper of waves always tell a tale of adventure and romance . . . and even of sailing ship mysteries on the high seas.
