Rays Get First Win

Posted

The Marco Island Rays got their first win, 69-56, over Mason Classical on Tuesday, Dec. 10. The rest of the week wasn’t as kind to the Rays, however, as they dropped home games on Thursday, 75-58, to Marathon, and 85-49 to Donahue Catholic on Friday.

The Rays’ win over Mason Classical (0-5) was a barnburner, with MIA outscoring the Paladans 14-4 down the stretch after leading by just 61-54 with 3:23 left in the game.

Marathon (3-6) controlled Thursday’s game all the way. It was the same story Friday as Donahue Catholic (7-3) jumped out to a 26-7 first quarter lead and never looked back.

Junior Jordan Rodden led the Rays against Donahue, scoring 17 points with his strong inside game. Cade Martin, who also does most of his work underneath, was the only other Ray in double figures with 11.

The Rays finished the 2024 portion of their schedule with a home game against Village School (3-3) on Monday, Dec. 16, and a road contest at Naples Classical (3-7). The Rays will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 2, when they travel to play South Ft. Myers (5-3) in tournament action.
