Nino Hits 4,000 as Trojans Achieve District Repeat

There wasn’t a lot of mystery in Lely’s 64-8 road win over Bonita Springs on Friday, October 24. But there were a couple of noteworthy achievements.

By dominating the Hammerheads, the Trojans clinched their second district championship in a row. They also recognized junior running back Nino Joseph for eclipsing the 4,000-yard career rushing mark, making him the leading rusher in Lely history.

“Proud of the kids,” Hammer said. "Second time in school history, back-to-back district champions. We’ve got more to finish. We’ve got to get better, obviously. But I’m excited for them. Proud of them.”

Hammer showed his pride in junior running back Joseph by calling a timeout after he passed the 4,000-yard plateau and presenting him with a painted football commemorating his achievement.

Lely was led by sophomore quarterback Brady Quinn, who threw for four touchdowns. Three of those touchdown catches were made by Zephaniah Diamond. Brandon Baptiste caught a 45-yard TD pass from Quinn. Joseph scored three touchdowns on the ground.

After improving to 6-3, Hammer immediately turns his focus to the Friday, October 31, road match-up with South Ft. Myers (7-2).

"They're a good team,” Hammer said. "They're well coached. We’re excited for the opportunity. Excited for the challenge.

The Trojans still have goals left this season: namely, a long run in the playoffs.

“Absolutely,” Hammer said. "Season's not over. We're gonna keep fighting, keep scratching, keep getting better until there is no season left."
