Art @ City Hall hosted an open house for guests to view artist Lynn Roberts’ textile art solo exhibit, “Nature’s Way,” on December 17. Roberts hasexhibited her art mostly in Pennsylvania, where she spends the summers, primarily in an Art Gallery and the Exchange in Bloomsburg. She has also been a frequent exhibitor for Art @ City Hall for the last several years.
“After retiring as a registered nurse, I found a new purpose and an avenue for creativity in the art of weaving,” Roberts said.“This just doesn’t provide ‘quiet’ to me in this very loud world, but can bring joy to people that enjoy my designs.” Roberts added, “Nature has naturally influenced me,especially through travel. I grew up in a small town in northeast Pennsylvania, and I am a snowbird traveling to Isles of Capri, Florida, for the last 17 years. I also spent my last two summers out west in Wyoming among the Grand Tetons. Nature’s vivid colors and textures inspire me significantly in my designs. I use a lap loom, which my husband made, so I can travel and weave anywhere we travel to.”
Roberts’ designs gravitate towards landscapes, birds, animals, and flowers. Her best sellers this year in particular are her bird designs, and she does a wide variety of birds such as crows, ravens, cardinals, woodpeckers, sparrows, pelicans, puffins, and owls. Nature’s vivid colors and textures are the inspiration for her many designs.
Roberts’s art can be considered textile art, fiber art, or tapestry art. What makes her art unique is her emphasis on color and texture. “Nature is my muse and things found in nature such as driftwood, feathers, pebbles, acorns, etc., integrate well with what I am designing,” said Roberts. Upcycling yarn that would most definitely end up in a landfill is another plus to her art. And that’s the reason the exhibit is titled, Nature’s Way.
“I am a self-taught artist,” Roberts added.“I love to create art incorporating jewelry into my mixed medium designs. I also use shells and sea glass in combination to flowers and sea landscapes. It’s the uniqueness of my nature composition that draws people to my art,” Roberts said.
Now, she is back in Florida, and she sees tropical fish, sea turtles, dolphins, and birds specific to Florida in her future. She will accept commissioned pieces in collaboration with the buyer and design something unique and personal. One design she is very motivated to do is a peacock. All her art pieces are for sale, and all proceeds go to the exhibiting artist. Roberts is also displaying her abstract weaving designs at the Plume Hair Salon in Marco.
Art @ City Hall was launched by Interim City Manager Casey Lucius in August 2020 and just celebrated a milestone of five years in August. The quarterly exhibit was meant to highlight Marco Island’s unique natural environment while celebrating local artists by displaying their works inside City Hall. Every three months, a new theme is planned and a call to artists is sent out soliciting artworks that align with the theme.
The very first theme was Roseate Spoonbills. Past themes included Storms and Sun, The Everglades, Wading Birds and Owls, Flora and Fauna of Marco – just to highlight a few. With Marco’s natural beauty, artists draw from nature’s endless tapestry.
Nature’s Way will be on display at City Hall through the end of February 2026. If you have questions on any of Robert's pieces or would like to set up a commission piece, you can reach her at: weavingmyway2@gmail.com.
