The Marco Island Historical Society (MIHS) and Collier County Museums invite the public to join them in celebrating Pineapple Day on Saturday, January 31, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on the campus of the Marco Island Historical Museum (MIHM).
Learn more about the fascinating history of pineapple farming on Marco Island. There were two pineapple plantations in the early 1900s named Ludlow’s and Captain Horr’s that fueled the local economy. It’s estimated that 50,000 pineapples were shipped from Marco Island in 1909 alone.
Join the family-friendly annual celebration showcasing Marco Island’s abundant pineapples and the pioneer spirit that developed the spiny tropical fruit as a major product of the island. Enjoy games, prizes, crafts, children’s activities, pineapple dishes and recipes, pineapple trivia, gardening tips, and more. Guests are encouraged to wear creative attire featuring all things pineapple.
The Marco Island Historical Museum is located at 180 S. Heathwood Drive. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission is free and the site is fully ADA compliant and accessible to all visitors. For information, call 239-389-6447 or visit www.theMIHS.org.
