Leslie Cartaya Returns for Musical Interludes

Posted

Cuban-born vocalist and composer Leslie Cartaya returns to Marco Island Center for the Arts at 5:30 PM Thursday, November 12, 2026, for a lively Musical Interludes performance celebrating the rhythms and rich musical traditions of Latin America. The concert is part of ¡Arte Viva!, Collier County’s celebration of Hispanic arts and culture.

Known for her dynamic stage presence and distinctive blend of traditional Cuban rhythms, jazz and American funk, Cartaya brings together Afro-Cuban, Afro-Latin and Latin American influences in a sound uniquely her own. Her musical journey began in Cuba, where family gatherings and spontaneous improvisation helped shape the expressive style she brings to audiences today.

Cartaya launched her solo career with the 2013 album No Pares, a 19-track collection showcasing her talents as both a vocalist and composer. The album reflects a vibrant mix of Caribbean, Afro-American, and Latin musical influences.

Before embarking on her solo career, Cartaya co-founded Palo!, an Afro-Cuban funk band whose debut album, This Is AfroCuban Funk, was praised by The New York Times as “the Cuban music of the new generation.” Her work with the group earned a Latin Grammy, a Grammy nomination, and a Suncoast Emmy Award for the soundtrack to the documentary Miami Boheme.

Cartaya’s return promises an engaging musical experience that celebrates the energy, diversity, and cultural heritage of Latin music. Cartaya returns to the Marco Island Center for the Arts for this Musical Interludes engagement. Tickets are available at www.marcoislandart.org/musical-interludes/ or by calling 239-394-4221.
