Robert H. Meyn Sr. (85) born February 5, 1941, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Avow Hospice Center in Naples, Florida, after a brief illness. Born in Wheeling, West Virginia to Harold and Martha Meyn, Bob grew up in Warwood, West Virginia through seventh grade, then later moved to Wheeling, West Virginia, where he spent the following five years attending Linsly Military Institute through high school graduation in 1959. After graduating in June 1963 from Carnegie Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, he began his career as a Junior Electrical Engineer at Atlantic City Electric Company.
In 1961, while grabbing a bus back to Carnegie, he happened upon his future bride of 63 years, Barbara Potts Meyn. Uncharacteristically, he asked for the seat next to her and this began a lifetime of much happiness and success. From those early days in Wheeling, to Pittsburgh (where they both attended school), to New Martinsville, West Virginia, where they married on December 7, 1963, then made their way to New Jersey where they began their family.
He is survived by wife Barbara P. Meyn and children Robert H. Meyn Jr., (Mary W. Meyn nee Waeghe) and Deborah L. (Meyn) Prowse (Lt. Col Jeffrey W. Prowse USMC-Aviator). His grandchildren Brian Walter Prowse (Cassie Prowse nee Tyler), Capt. William Robert Prowse USMC-Aviator, Catherine Meyn Matthews (Austin), and Davis Robert Meyn, and great-granddaughter Aurora Emerson Prowse. They have all filled his days with laughter and adventure through the years and miles.
After 32 years working in the area of Equipment and Structural Design of substations at Atlantic City Electric Company, Bob retired as a manager in 1995. Bob spent his lifetime enjoying fishing, golfing, and boating before he and Barbara learned they had a passion for sailing. After spending 10 years living and sailing with the Miles River Yacht Club on the Chesapeake Bay, the Caribbean, and Lake Champlain, they moved to warmer seas and the shores of Marco Island, Florida. There Bob has spent his sun-filled retirement days enjoying more golf, boating, and fishing, along with many hours of volunteering and singing in the church choir. His gentle, easy-going manner created and formed many friendships as a member of Southwest Florida Men’s Club, former president of the Naples GYRO Men’s Club, The Island Country Club, and of Marco Lutheran Church.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Harold H. and Martha Meyn, and his brother William, passed at 15 from polio.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Avow Hospice in Naples, Florida, or Marco Lutheran Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Marco Lutheran Church, Marco Island, Florida, at 3:00 PM. A “sweet” reception will be held immediately following in the church hall.
