Otmar Paul Horst Pfeifer, 87, of Marco Island, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 12, 2024. Born in Karlsruhe, Germany, Otmar was the beloved son of Ludwig and Karoline Pfeifer (née Dentler). He was predeceased by his sister Elenora Ruttinger (Pfeifer) her husband Herman, brother Norbert Pfeifer, while his brother Edgar Pfeifer and sisters-in-law Karin and Ursela survive him. Otmar immigrated to the United States in 1956 at the age of 19, seeking a brighter future. He arrived in New York City and settled in New Jersey, where he worked as a tanner. Shortly after, he met and married Edith Pfeifer (née Knoedler) in 1959. Together, they raised two daughters and eventually moved to Tenafly, NewJersey, where Otmar worked for the Department of Public Works, rising to the position of Senior Foreman. A man of remarkable work ethic, Otmar also worked for Ford Motor Company, Hackensack Water Company, and owned his own landscaping business, often holding multiple jobs at once to ensure a better life for his family. Otmar served proudly in the U.S. Army and became an upstanding citizen, always striving to support and care for those he loved. He played many instruments including accordion, piano, trumpet, and loved to sing. He and Edith retired to Marco Island in 1997 after many years of vacationing there since 1989. In retirement, they enjoyed their golden years traveling and spending precious time with family and friends. Their marriage of 65 years was filled with love, adventure, and cherished memories.
Otmar leaves behind a devoted family: his daughters Debby Amicucci his son-in-law David, Susan Pfeifer her partner Donnie, grandchildren Justin Mendes and wife Casey, Jessica Ryals and husband Clark, and Meagan Banks and partner Brett,as well as his treasured great-grandchildren Maggie, Chase, Perry, Juniper, Waylon, and Whitney. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he loved and loved him dearly. Otmar will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His legacy is one of kindness, hard work, humor, and dedication to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Avow Hospice in Naples in Otmar’s name: https://avowcares.org/.
