In Loving Memory of Mary Ann Hansen

Posted

Mary Ann Hansen, a resident of Marco Island since 1996, passed away from a long illness in Winchester, Virginia, on January 2, 2026, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Mary Ann was born on May 7, 1940, spending most of her youth in Westport, Connecticut, and Louisville, Kentucky. She attended Marquette University but returned to Louisville after her mother died unexpectedly to help at home. She married her college sweetheart, Richard (Bruce) Jackman, after graduation from the University of Louisville complete with the crossed swords ceremony at Quantico. Later, as the wife of a CIA officer, she had many responsibilities on station and worries when not. Her favorite cities were Amman, Nairobi, and Beirut (before the situation deteriorated), resulting in many lasting friendships. Bruce passed away shortly after they built their dream home on Marco in 1996.

In 2005, Mary Ann married Jim Hansen of Atlanta and became a winter on/summer off resident of Marco until Jim passed away in 2023. She became very close to her new relatives in Georgia and Texas, who were a great help to her when she became ill in 2025.
She was active in many San Marco Catholic Church ministries, including The Respect Life Ministry and Extraordinary Ministry of the Eucharist, as well as the Council of Catholic Women. She sang in the choir with Jim and was a co-leader of the San Marco Prayer Group.

Mary Ann is survived by her son Scott Jackman and her grandchildren Sydney and Riley Jackman of Ashburn, Virginia, her daughter Heather Thornton, grandchild Carly Beard, and two great-grandchildren Ashton and Clayton Beard of Bunker Hill, West Virginia, as well as her brother Walter Timmerman of Naples, Florida.

A service will be held at San Marco Catholic Church in the Spring.
