Hundreds Rally for Candlelight Vigil

Posted

About 500 people gathered at the Collier County Courthouse Saturday evening for a candlelight vigil to commemorate Renee Good, shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. They joined similar events held coast to coast in over a thousand cities.

At the Naples vigil, attendees heard from Rev. Tony Fisher of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Greater Naples and ACLU volunteer Hillary Hogue, who described being arrested and detained by ICE in LaBelle for monitoring an ICE operation.

“This was a remarkable turnout in less than 48 hours,” said organizer Cynthia Odierna of Indivisible. “This killing is part of a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse carried out by federal immigration enforcement agencies against members of our communities.” Good, a 37-year-old wife and mother of three, was a U.S. citizen.
