In a city known for white sand beaches and waterfront estates, one Instagram account is quietly redefining what community engagement looks like—one hidden bill at a time.
The anonymous creator behind @FindTheCashNaples has turned the streets, parks, and businesses of Naples into a real-life scavenger hunt. With short videos offering cryptic clues and riddles, followers race to locate hidden stashes of cash tucked behind landmarks or inside local shops. What started as a passion project just two weeks ago has exploded into a viral sensation, attracting ten thousand followers and eager participants across Southwest Florida.
“It’s been a pretty wild ride,” he told me. “I had a strong feeling it would do great, but not this fast.”
The person behind the page, who requested to remain anonymous, has roots in multimedia and video production. While he’s spent over 15 years honing his skills behind the camera, he never expected those talents would someday lead to hiding money in pizza boxes or behind park benches. But for him, it was never about visibility - it was about impact.
“I’ve always told people, I know I’m going to make it big one day, but I know it’ll be by helping other people become big. It’s not about being the face - it’s about building something that brings people joy.”
The idea isn’t new to him. Nearly a decade ago, he tested a similar concept with a one-time livestreamed drop, hiding $20 in a local park. Within 15 minutes, someone found it. The excitement was undeniable. Now, with a deeper skillset and a stronger purpose, he’s returned to the concept with a mission: use his creative talents to uplift others.
“I started thinking, how can I use my skills to benefit people? What gets them off their phones, outside, and into the community but still entertains them?”
Inspired by concepts like Pokémon Go and driven by his own love for storytelling, he launched Find the Cash Naples earlier this month. He posted a teaser promising a $100 drop once the page hit 500 followers. Since then, he’s hidden $20, $50, and $100 in places that range from local beaches to shopping centers, each one chosen with intention.
“Some places are meaningful to me, like Seagate Beach, where I used to shoot videos. Others are community-driven, based on requests I get in my DMs. I want people across Naples to feel like they have a chance.”
But this isn't just about free money. As his page grew, so did interest from local businesses. Some offered to sponsor future drops. Others wanted to collaborate on themed challenges.
“A pizza shop I’m working with is donating food for a cash drop. We’re putting $100 in one of six boxes. The rest have real pizzas. So even if you don’t win the money, you still leave with something. It’s fun, it’s creative, and it gives back.”
His approach merges storytelling, social media, and grassroots generosity in a way that’s resonating. Several businesses are already exploring how to partner, and he sees even more opportunity on the horizon. He hopes to use his production skills to help businesses tell their story through behind-the-scenes videos - raw, authentic, and far from a traditional ad.
“This could be a new way for businesses to advertise. Not with a polished, commercial-style video, but with something real. Something that shows who they are and why they care.”
The project is evolving quickly. There are already plans to expand into Fort Myers, where a second Instagram page is quietly gaining traction. Down the line, he hopes to implement subscriber-only exclusive drops with larger cash prizes - up to $500 or more - and continue using any sponsorship funds to fuel even bigger community giveaways.
“I’m not rich. I’m just a regular guy with rent to pay and a love for creating. But I know that a small gesture - $50, $100 - can go a long way in someone’s day.”
Through it all, he remains behind the curtain, letting his work, and the reactions of those who find the cash, speak for itself. It’s not about fame, he says. It’s about creating something joyful, inclusive, and just a little magical.
“My hands still shake during every drop,” he admits. “But that nervousness reminds me I care. I care about doing it right, about giving people a moment they won’t forget.”
