Domestic Animal Services Celebrates Adopt a Senior Pet Month

Posted

Collier County Domestic Animal Services (DAS) is celebrating Adopt a Senior Pet Month this November by spotlighting the older dogs and cats waiting for loving homes at the shelter.

Recognized by the ASPCA, Adopt a Senior Pet Month encourages prospective adopters to consider the many benefits of welcoming an older pet into their lives. Senior pets can make wonderful companions, offering affection, companionship, and established personalities that help adopters find the right fit for their households. Often calmer and more settled, senior pets can be an excellent match for a relaxed lifestyle. Many are already house-trained and familiar with household routines, allowing adopters to skip some of the early training that comes with a puppy or kitten. They can be especially wonderful companions for older adults seeking a loyal friend, and adopting a senior pet gives these deserving animals the chance to spend their golden years surrounded by comfort, security, and love.

At DAS, adoption fees are always waived for senior pets, making it even easier to give an older animal another chance. The fee waiver applies to dogs older than six and cats older than seven.

Throughout November, DAS will highlight its available senior dogs and cats on social media, sharing their personalities and stories to help connect them with potential adopters. Community members are encouraged to follow @CollierCountyDAS on social media, share the animals’ posts, and help spread the word about the senior pets waiting for homes.

All available animals can be viewed at Pets.Collier.gov. Prospective adopters are also welcome to visit DAS at 7610 Davis Blvd. in Naples. The shelter is open weekdays from 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM, and weekends from 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Wednesdays are by appointment only.
