It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Abe Skinner, who served as Collier County’s Property Appraiser for over three decades. Mr. Skinner, a beloved leader, mentor, and public servant, dedicated his life to serving the people of Collier County, leaving behind an unparalleled legacy of professionalism and commitment to the community.
Abe Skinner began his journey with the Collier County Property Appraiser’s Office in 1962, working in both the technical and managerial sides of appraisal operations. In 1991, he was elected Property Appraiser and served faithfully until his retirement, which was set to begin in January 2025. His contributions to Collier County went beyond his duties, embodying the spirit of public service and shaping the office into what it is today.
“We are heartbroken by this devastating loss,” said Property Appraiser-Elect Vickie Downs. “Abe was not just a colleague; he was a cornerstone of this office and a trusted friend. His vision, dedication, and kindness touched countless lives, and his impact will be felt for generations.”
Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time. We will provide further updates as they become available.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and everyone who had the honor of knowing him. Collier County has lost a true icon, and his legacy will remain an integral part of our community's history.
