Bubbie’s Bakery Returns

Posted

Bubbie’s Bakery returns to the Jewish Congregation of Marco Island (JCMI) on Sunday, February 1, for its annual bake sale of homemade Jewish baked items and soup.

Now in their third year of organizing the event, Barb Holtz and Beth Weinberg say this year’s offerings will bring new items, including potato knishes, which are savory pockets of potato in a flaky crust; kugel, a sweet noodle pudding with cottage cheese, sugar, and cinnamon; and a selection of gluten-free items in response to customer requests from prior years.

Bubbie’s Bakery is named after the Jewish term of affection for grandmother, which many of the JCMI bakers are. More than 15 members of the JCMI community have spent months preparing and freezing their wares for the big event, which runs from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM on February 1 at JCMI on Winterberry Dr.

In addition to the new items in this year’s sales, a slew of customer favorites will return, including matzoh balls, chicken soup, challah bread, babka bread, simcha cake, and strudel, among others.

JCMI will also operate Bubbie’s Café for the day, offering bagels with a schmear and coffee in the morning, and JCMI’s famous bingo hot dogs and chips for lunch.

Check back next week for a behind-the-scenes look at the six-month effort to bring Bubbie’s Bakery to life.
