Book Study at United Church

Posted

United Church of Marco Island will host a book study on Tuesday, July 15, at 1:00 PM in Disseler Hall. The book is entitled “The Stranger in the Lifeboat,” by Mitch Albom, and the study will be facilitated by Shannon Benedetti.

Here is a summary of the book: “Adrift in a raft after a deadly yacht explosion, ten survivors end up on a lifeboat. They include the yacht's owner, wealthy high-profile guests, and members of staff. Short on food, water, hope, and struggling for survival, they spot a mysterious man floating in the waves. They pull him into the boat. “Thank the Lord we found you,” a passenger says. “I am the Lord,” the man whispers. What would happen if we cried out to God for help and someone claiming to be God actually appeared before us? In this profound novel, a group of shipwrecked passengers must face that challenge when this strange man they pulled from the water says he can save them all, but only if they believe in Him. This is a story depicting entitlement, acceptance of situation and help, perseverance, loss, hope, healing, and finding faith.”

United Church of Maro Island worships at 10:00 AM every Sunday off season. Currently, services are being held in Disseler Hall.
