Baiting Beauties Bring the Fun to Fishing

Posted

The Marco Sport Fishing Club recently hosted its 13th annual "Baiting Beauties" all-women’s fishing tournament, concluding with an awards celebration and picnic at Sarazen Park on Sunday, March 8.

The tournament brought together 33 anglers and 17 boats for a week of competition in the local backwaters. Designed to break down barriers in the angling world, the event provides a supportive environment where women of all skill levels can build confidence, sharpen their techniques, and master the sport.

Anglers competed across six primary categories, including Pompano, Spotted Sea Trout, Snook, Redfish/Black Drum, Snapper, and Sheepshead. The leaderboard also featured an “Other Species” category for catches such as ladyfish, catfish, shark, jack regale, and any other miscellaneous species.

“Our goal is to help women feel at home on the water,” said Cathy Erickson, event organizer and club member. “It’s about gaining confidence and independence while enjoying the friendly competition that makes our club so special.”

The "Baiting Beauties" tournament is held annually during the first week of March. The Marco Sport Fishing Club invites women of all experience levels to join the fun for next year’s event, scheduled for March 8–13, 2027.
