Back to School

Marco Island Academy welcomed back students for their first day of school Monday, August 11. It marks the fifth year in the school’s brick-and-mortar building.

When it was suggested that the school still looks brand new, principal Melissa Scott smiled and said, “That’s our goal.”

Marco Island Academy had modest beginnings, starting in the Family Church building on Winterberry before securing the property on San Marco Road. For several years, portable classrooms were utilized before the impressive building and sports complex were completed.

"For me, the first day of school is one of the best days of the year,” said Scott. “I absolutely love having the students back on the campus and throughout the building. They, along with the staff, bring energy and vitality to MIA, and provide the sparkle that I love so much.”

A trademark of Scott’s leadership is her personal involvement with her students.

"This senior class is one full of so much promise and positivity,” she said, "and every class to follow is so loved. I cannot wait to see what we accomplish in the year to come.
