The Marco Island Center for the Arts will show the third in the series of films in the 2026 Art Flicks series, “Strength and Resilience,” at 1010 Winterberry Drive at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 24. All four films this season are based on true stories.
“Pride” is an extraordinary true story. In 1984 Britain, all coal miners went on a strike that lasted for almost one year. For a tiny Welsh village, the strike brings support from a London-based gay/lesbian activist group who help raise money to support the strikers’ families. This heartwarming film about two groups of people, worlds apart, shows that standing united together makes the strongest union of all. A story about the humanity of all people, no matter who they are. A story of strength and resilience.
This is the ninth season of the Art Flicks series, originally launched in 2014. It features FREE theme-based films, FREE refreshments, followed by lively discussions for both residents and island visitors who are interested in the art and wonder of film.
The line forms outside the Art Center starting around 9:15 AM, with Art Center doors opening for the start of the program by 9:30 AM. Seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Each film’s introduction starts at 10:00 AM. All films will be shown with subtitles for a better movie-going experience.
“The Art Flicks committee provides free coffee, tea, and sweets, the movie is free, we only ask for donations at the end of each film, of which 100% is given to the Art Center,” commented committee chair Joan Gerberding. “During the first eight years of this film series, our patrons have donated over $16,000 to support the arts on Marco Island.”
This year’s sponsors include Collier Community Foundation, Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), WGCU PBS and NPR, Condee Cooling & Electric Inc., Southmade Marketing, and Coastal Breeze News.
