Y Swimmers Strike Gold in Key West

The young swimmers from the Marco YMCA struck gold when they competed in a swim meet in Key West last weekend. Longtime swim coach Kamal Farhat, who has been coaching swimmers at the Y for 26 years, was proud of his swimmers.

“The kids achieved very well,” Farhat said. “They had better results than even last year. I’m very happy with the result. And I’m hoping to go even higher from here.”

Farhat, who has produced Division I and Olympic swimmers at the Y, says he may have some top swimmers in his midst.

“I think there is,” he said with a big smile. “It depends on how they keep up with it.”

Farhat is thankful for his long tenure working with the Marco kids. “They keep me humble," he said, “and I keep them in line.”
