United Church Tuesday Afternoon at the Movies Features About Time

United Church of Marco Island invites the community to its popular Tuesday Afternoon at the Movies on Tuesday, August 18, at 1:00 PM, featuring the heartwarming and thought-provoking film About Time. Admission is free, and all are welcome.

From acclaimed writer-director Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Notting Hill), About Time tells the story of Tim Lake, a young man who discovers that the men in his family possess the extraordinary ability to travel back in time. At first, Tim uses his remarkable gift to improve his love life and avoid life's embarrassing moments. But as he matures, he learns that even the ability to revisit the past cannot shield us from life's joys, disappointments, and inevitable losses. Instead, the film gently reminds us that the greatest gift is learning to embrace each ordinary day with gratitude, love, and purpose.

Following the screening, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a brief discussion exploring the movie's spiritual themes and their connection to the Christian faith.

"One of the central messages of the Christian faith is that every day is a gift from God," said Rev. Dr. Ed Brandt, Senior Pastor of United Church of Marco Island. "While About Time imagines what it might be like to relive the past, the Gospel invites us to live fully in the present—with gratitude, grace, forgiveness, and love. The film reminds us that we don't need the power to change yesterday when Christ gives us the opportunity to make today meaningful."

The discussion will explore themes that resonate deeply with Christian faith, including:

  • Living each day with gratitude rather than regret.
  • The importance of family, forgiveness, and sacrificial love.
  • Finding joy in ordinary moments.
  • Recognizing that time itself is one of God's greatest gifts.
  • Choosing to live intentionally in light of eternity.

"Tuesday Afternoon at the Movies" is part of United Church of Marco Island's ongoing effort to engage faith through film, encouraging meaningful conversations about life, hope, and the values that shape our lives.

The event will be held at United Church of Marco Island, located at 320 North Barfield Drive, Marco Island. There is no cost to attend, and guests are encouraged to invite friends and neighbors for an afternoon of entertainment, reflection, and fellowship.
