The first day of school is an exciting time for students, faculty, and staff alike. And Tuesday morning, August 11, at Marco Island Academy was no exception. Teachers and administrators appeared slightly nervous as they were milling around the lobby an hour ahead of the students’ arrival. Meanwhile, seniors Sarah Friedhoff and Amanda Fonseca were the first students in the parking lot, busily organizing their Seniors 2027 welcome signs beside Friedhoff’s parking space.
But any early nervousness was quickly replaced with smiles, laughs, and hugs. It was obvious that the MIA family was happy to be back together for another school year.
“I always feel like a kid again before every first day,” said Melissa Scott, longtime principal. “Excited, a bit anxious, but every year I cannot wait for the students to return. I love the energy and life they bring back to campus. We had a wonderful staff week and everyone has been so welcoming and warm. I'm so excited that we are back together again."
