“It’s never too late to pick up a brush and give it a go!” says Sarah ‘Sally’ McBride. Inspiring words spoken by a 95-year-old woman who had always wanted to learn how to paint.
Sally began working with watercolors in 1990 right here on Marco Island at the Center of the Arts. Originally from Simsbury, Connecticut, she lived most of her adult life in Boston before moving to Marco Island. She has been on the island for 40 years and is currently a resident at The Watermark.
After 36 years of painting, numerous workshops, and many art teachers, she has accumulated quite a collection. Up till now, she has enjoyed sharing with family and friends, other residents of The Watermark, and its staff. However, she has never had an exhibit of her own.
Sally’s assistant, Susie Brady, said that The Watermark has asked for some of her watercolors on a rotation to be featured in the lobby, one a month. “Then the art director here asked if we could do a wall, and that's how it all started!” An idea for an exhibit of her very own.
On Saturday, September 19, ‘Sally’s Art Show’ will take place from 3:00 PM-5:00 PM on the third floor of The Watermark.
This FREE event, that is open to the public, will feature 30 pieces of her splash on life watercolor art. Prosecco and hors d’oeuvres will be served as guests can mingle with Sally and appreciate the special opportunity to view this sampling of her artwork.
If you are an art lover, be sure to add this showcase event to your calendar and come have a great time!
The Watermark is located at 1170 San Marco Road, Marco Island.
