Nearly two weeks after the Marco Walk Plaza painting of the windows commenced, Pat Berry (one of the event organizers) wanted to do something more. Something that even more members of the community and visitors alike could take part in. The idea came to her while in the shower, a place she credits for the origin of many of her ideas: Have dedicated windows for people to write their names, share where they are from, or even do a small doodle themselves.
Days before the Fourth of July, Nacho Mamas graciously opened up two of their windows for the late addition to the plaza-wide painting project. In less than 48 hours, the two windows filled completely! Pat went back to Nacho Mamas and also Vintage Island to request more windows.
At the close of the busy 250th celebration of America’s birthday, six windows were filled with names, notes, drawings, and exchanges of places lived, with some even spilling to a seventh window.
For this first-time project at Marco Walk Plaza by Pat Berry, Nick Campo, and a dedicated group of long-time residents, the goal was small: to bring back a piece of the small town community feel. They not only accomplished that goal, but hit it out of the ballpark in scale, visitation, and inclusion of the community and tourists.
There is still time to check out the over three dozen windows filled with patriotic themes of red, white, and blue and celebrations of our freedom!
