The Marco Island Fire Rescue Foundation will proudly unveil the Marco Island 9/11 Memorial on Friday, September 11, 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that forever changed our nation.
The unveiling ceremony will begin at 9:30 AM at the Marco Island Fire Station, 1280 San Marco Road, Marco Island. The community is invited to gather for this meaningful occasion of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude.
Following the memorial unveiling, a Blue Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at San Marco Catholic Church. The Blue Mass will offer an additional opportunity for the community to come together in prayer and remembrance and to honor first responders and all those who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving others. The entire community is invited to attend.
Created as a lasting tribute to the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, the Marco Island 9/11 Memorial will also honor the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, military members, and ordinary citizens who responded in a moment of unimaginable crisis.
The memorial is intended to serve not only as a place of remembrance, but also as a place where future generations can learn about the events of September 11 and understand the courage, unity, service, and sacrifice demonstrated in their aftermath.
The Marco Island 9/11 Memorial was made possible through the leadership of the Marco Island Fire Rescue Foundation and the Foundation’s 9-11 Memorial committee, consisting of Bill Albanese, Dianna Dohm, Dr. Al Bismonte, Lou Marinaccio, Roger Nadeau, Ralph Peterman, John Stuart and the generosity and commitment of community donors, sponsors, supporters, and partners. Their contributions have helped create a permanent place on Marco Island where residents and visitors can pause, reflect, and ensure that the stories and sacrifices of September 11 are never forgotten.
For the Marco Island Fire Rescue Foundation, the memorial represents a commitment that extends beyond a single anniversary. It is a promise to preserve the memory of those who were lost, honor those who served and sacrificed, and pass the lessons of September 11 to generations who were not yet born when the attacks occurred.
Twenty-five years later, Marco Island remembers.
The Marco Island Fire Rescue Foundation invites residents, first responders, veterans, community leaders, families, and visitors to join together on September 11 for both the memorial unveiling and the Blue Mass as Marco Island honors the lives, courage, service, and sacrifice forever connected to September 11, 2001.
