The Marco Island Historical Society (MIHS) and Museum (MIHM) welcomed more than 135 guests to its America 250: Red, White, and You at the Museum celebration on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, bringing the community together to honor America's 250th anniversary through history, education, and cultural experiences.
The afternoon featured an engaging living history presentation by Carolyn Rosenfeld, portraying The Ghost of Julia, which offered visitors a unique glimpse into Marco Island's past. Guests also had the opportunity to meet renowned Florida photographer Clyde Butcher during the closing reception and book signing for his special museum exhibition, America the Beautiful.
The event reflected the museum's mission of preserving and sharing the rich history of Marco Island while inspiring appreciation for our nation's heritage during the America 250 commemoration.
"We were delighted to welcome so many residents and visitors to celebrate our country's history and our community's unique story," said Pat Rutledge, Chief Executive Officer of the Marco Island Historical Society. "Events like these demonstrate the importance of bringing history to life and creating opportunities for people of all ages to connect with our shared heritage."
The Marco Island Historical Society extends its appreciation to the MIHS and MIHM staff, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners whose dedication made the event possible. Special thanks are also extended to members of the Marco Island Historical Society Board of Directors who attended in support of the celebration.
