Beata Karpisiak has been coming to Marco Island for the past six and a half years. Her two main hobbies have been fishing and using her metal detector. Rough waters kept her from fishing offshore one day, so she went strolling along the beach looking for shells. Lo and behold, there was a Junonia staring right at her. She had heard of these rare beauties but never found one. The next morning while looking for shells again, she found another Junonia! “I still can't believe that I found two Junonia shells in two days while many search sometimes years to find this rare Crown Jewel of the sea,” said Karpisiak. She has now added shell collecting as a hobby. Avid shellers know that once you start, you can’t stop!
