On January 30-31, 2025, Leadership Day arrived at Marco Island Charter Middle School, and it was an extravagant experience for many visitors and students. “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way” was from the famous American author and pastor John C. Maxwell. And speaking of leadership, leadership day has already come at MICMS. Leadership day is when our fellow students display their leadership and school to guests who could be future sixth-grade students or adults who could be elementary teachers who want to know what our school is about. There were tons of compliments that were given to many of my fellow students by the visitors and teachers who were very impressed by their showcase about the school and what it's about. There were many clubs which were shown such as the builders club, debate club, the basketball team, and the homework club. Also, the Fantastic Choir, Jazz band, and Hand-bell Choir sang and played many songs to show their school pride. The Choir/Band Teacher at MICMS said, “The students who presented were more prepared to present than the adults. I thought that the students who performed were amazing. Many adults were very complimentary.” Also, a fellow student who participated in this event named Lana Glutting of MICMS said “It was really amazing how we could represent and showcase our wonderful school to many people who are in our community. It just truly was one of our most wonderful moments in Marco Island Charter Middle School.” Mrs. Pena, a teacher from Tommie Barfield Elementary (TBE) said, “ I am so surprised and extremely proud of all the progress all the students made after they graduated from TBE. They all are not afraid to speak out to the public and show their school, which is a great achievement in their lives. I wish them the best of luck to keep on making this school the best school in Florida and for them to have a successful Future.”
The Lighthouse Leadership group, who was one of the groups that participated in Leadership Day said that they don’t do Leadership Day for only fame, but to inspire the new incoming students who are coming to MICMS next year to become the leaders of our new generation. They also want to show that anyone, weak or strong, shy or confident, or different in any way, can become a leader. As one of the most prominent figures in our life, Warren Bennis, who is considered the “father of leadership” said, “The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born - that is nonsense; in fact, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than being born.”
