In the summer of 1955, developer L.L. “Doc” Loach bought about 700 acres on four small islands that 70 decades later comprise the current day Isles of Capri.
On Saturday, March 22, over 300 Isles of Capri residents, friends, and family gathered on the future site of the Capri Harbor Marina to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Doc Loach’s initial investment. The event was Capri Community Inc.’s annual spring picnic.
Rock Republic, complete with video board, entertained the large crowd for over three hours. For the band’s grand finale, Rock Republic invited the youngest attendees to join the band on stage with their very own plastic blow-up instruments.
Isles of Capri’s 1955 beginnings were highlighted by a special historical photo display, hosted by Susan Gower, daughter of long-time residents Betty and Dave Moenkhaus, with additional pictures from another long-time resident Julie Gunthier.
Do you remember way back when new car models were unveiled each fall on popular television programs such as The Ed Sullivan Show? Another treat was a stunning 1956 Ford T-Bird - built in 1955 with an original retail cost of a whopping $4,200 - which was on-site for all to view, courtesy of residents Diane and John Kernan.
