The year is 1955, and Marco Island Charter Middle School (MICMS) Theater Club welcomes you to Prairie Pines, a sleepy little town in the Arizona Desert with a population just a little over 164 people. The town has a grocery store, hardware shop, beauty parlor, gas station and repair shop, and for entertainment, its own little town movie theater. The place where everyone comes to eat is Honey Mae’s Dinner. Folks’ lives are simple, with one day melting into the other. Most people are content with the same easy feeling of life, except for one of Honey Mae’s waitresses, Madge. She would love to think there is more to life. Her wish is about to come true when a strange woman walks into the diner and asks for a cup of coffee. What happens next turns Prairie Pines upside down, from a missing Hollywood starlet to vehicles getting run off the road, including a school bus loaded with hot, thirsty children to a detective snooping around the place. You will meet Honey Mae’s regular customers, her staff, and a whole host of strange goings on. Madge’s typical day will be gone forever.
This is the ninth year of the MICMS theater club. This year, they will be joined by the YMCA Afterschool theater as (you guessed it) the school bus kids! Gina Sisbarro, the Director for the MICMS school who wrote the play especially for her students, says the excitement never ends with lots of fun twists and turns. The truth is uncovered in one of the last scenes. A combination of veteran actors and brand-new faces keeps the excitement moving forward. This year, they are performing three shows: April 24 at 7:00 PM, April 25 at 1:00 PM, and April 26 at 1:00 PM. Doors open a half hour before the show at the middle school auditorium at 1401 Trinidad Ave.
This year, they are fundraising for the Patty Baker Humane Society in Naples. There is no cost to see the show; however, it’s asked that you bring in donated items for our furry friends from food (unopened), treats, toys, and cleaning items such as paper towels, baby wipes, disinfectant wipes, blankets, and bath towels. During intermission, there will be a concerto of mom and daughter playing in the lobby to entertain (of course, donations accepted).
It’s lots of fun for the entire family and a great way to introduce your children to the magic of theater!!!
