Feeding School Kids with Weekend Bags

Supporting children is at the heart of Suncoast Credit Union’s generous community support. Since 1990, they have contributed more than $45 million to organizations and initiatives throughout Florida that specifically support the health, education, and emotional well-being of children. This year, they have continued this legacy by awarding Our Daily Bread Food Pantry (ODBFP) with a $5,000 grant for 2025.

This award will support ODBFP’s Healthy Kids School programming, currently serving 700 food-insecure students (K-12) attending seven CCPS sites, including the following locations: Tommie Barfield Elementary, Lely Elementary, Lely High School, Manatee Elementary School, Manatee Middle School, Marco Island Charter Middle School, and Marco Island Academy. Specifically, this grant will provide 500 Weekend Bags for low-income students (K-12) with two days of “kid-friendly” easy-to-prepare meals when they are not in school.

“We are deeply grateful to the Suncoast Credit Union for their ongoing investment in our efforts to provide healthy choices for the food-insecure children we serve,” states Executive Director Evelyn Rossetti-Ryan, EdD. “Their renewed annual  financial support helps ensure that our children do not go hungry over the weekend and receive the nutritious food they need to return to school on Monday prepared to learn and reach their full potential.”
