Cheers to One-Year

Posted

Our Daily Bread Food Pantry (ODBFP) volunteers gathered at 1818 San Marco Road on July 29, 2026, to celebrate one year at their new and permanent home. It seemed like just yesterday (July 27, 2025) that volunteers and movers helped relocate the Pantry from its previous location on Winterberry Drive to its newly constructed facility. Also in this new location, ODBFP celebrated its tenth birthday in January 2026. Again, looking back to 2016, ODBFP started as a mission of the Family Church, inspired by five founders who were moved to act after learning that local children were coming to school hungry. In its first year, the pantry served 320 households. In 2025, Bread Food Pantry distributed approximately two million pounds of food to the community.

Evelyn Rosetti-Ryan, ODBFP’s Executive Director, shared the following thoughts on the Pantry’s one-year anniversary at their newest location. “Ten years of Our Daily Bread Food Pantry is a celebration of more than meals—it’s a legacy of encouragement, hope, and investing in our community. Each bag of food shared is a reminder that kindness multiplies, that neighbors care for one another, and that no one has to face hardship alone. As we look ahead, may we continue to nourish both body and spirit, strengthening our community by lifting up those in need.” Rosetti added, “It wouldn’t have been the same without our volunteers. You are an important part of our story and a valued member of our community.”

ODBFP’s board member, Allyson Richards, also added, “Every wall in this building tells a story of kindness. Every room echoes the generosity of our donors, the dedication of our volunteers, and the unwavering support of our partners. Together, we have built far more than a food pantry—you’ve built hope.”

Ron McClay welcomed all the volunteers and remarked, “You are the hardest working volunteers on Marco Island. Without each of you, it is only a building, and without each of you, 1,500 families would not receive food, school children would not receive breakfasts, snacks, and backpacks. We are humbled by your generous donations of time, energy, and commitment. We are very grateful.”

McClay recognized a number of Island supporters as follows: Eric Stahl Produce, Mike from Publix, and Mary Jo and Moose from Paddy Murphy’s Irish Bar for allowing socials at Paddy Murphy’s. He also gave a shout-out to Rene and Dirk for hosting the Pantry’s socials at Nacho Mama’s. McClay also acknowledged Winn-Dixie’s partnership with Abi Serrano (store manager) for his support with the annual Fill the Boat event and with food purchasing. Also, Winn-Dixie’s Joe Benson and members of his team, who worked tirelessly to help load and unload our trucks and work the pallet jacks. A special mention to Glenn Gagnon, of Easy Day Movers, who one year ago this month helped move ODBFP from Winterberry Drive to 1818 San Marco Road. And not to forget Nancy Kot, a board member, for her dedication to get this building converted from a bank to a food pantry. And of course, to Evelyn Rosetti-Ryan for her successful fundraising efforts to bring us to where we are today.”

Food was catered by Chef Laura of LBeeO’s Hospitality Services and featured fresh fruits and vegetable salads using fresh produce from Our Daily Bread Food Pantry. The indispensable Bill Christ was busy with the food truck serving burgers and hot dogs, and Marybeth Cummings had snow cone ingredients ready and popcorn for the first anniversary celebration!

Year One is always a crucial year as it lays the foundation for the road ahead. In wine production, the wine vintage is the year in which the grapes were harvested.

For Our Daily Bread Food Pantry, it is looking like 2026 is a Vintage Year!
