Ahoy Santa!

The 37th Annual Boat Parade took place on the chilly night of December 21st, where temperatures dipped into the 50s, creating a true winter holiday feeling.

This year’s parade saw much larger watercraft, including a 55-, 70-, and 75-foot vessel. With 27 total boats in procession, organization was essential in lining up the vessels for safety and swiftness.

Marco Island Police Department (MIPD)kept steady radio communications with the entries, ensuring a timely start. MIPD led the way, clearing the parade route and checking for safety of both the people and vessels on the water.MI Fire Department brought up the rear, decorating their brand-new fire boat, and saw to it that no boat got too far behind.

“I think this year was the best year so far by the turnout and the way the boats looked. Everyone did an outstanding job!” said Dave Richards, Boat Parade Chairman with Christmas Island Style, “This year was the first time we made a category for just businesses, and we judged them off that. My goal for next year is to try to get even more businesses involved. I’m hoping to have 30-35 boats for 2025.”

Both private homes and businesses were bustling with excited spectators cheering on and snapping photos of their favorites. Patrons of the boats themselves garnered Christmas spirit with colorful accessories, and holiday outfits, and danced to Christmas music matching their theme.

Small town community and Christmas merriment were felt warmly and shone just as brightly as the thousands of dazzling lights glistening upon the waters from the decorated boats.
