Vietnam Veterans Memorial Statue Progress

Posted

Construction is underway for American Legion Post 404’s highly anticipated Vietnam Veterans Memorial Statue at Veterans Community Park. Currently slated for completion in mid-summer with a grand unveiling scheduled during the Veterans Day proceedings in November, interested parties can follow along with its progress live at the park.

City Council approved building the memorial in March 2024, approving the location and size of the monument in October 2025 including the lighting, landscaping, and seating areas around the memorial site. The bronze sculpture will include six military figures. More than 58,000 Americans lost their lives in the Vietnam War.

Though the memorial statue will not be finished by the upcoming Memorial Day, there is still time to make a lasting tribute for a veteran or loved one in your life by purchasing a Memorial Bench, a Personalized Paver, or a cash donation.

Further information will be shared in the coming weeks about the statue’s status, its journey to completion, and the many steps taken to bring this unique and special piece to Marco Island.

A limited number of Memorial Benches remain at the price of $10,000 each. Four-by-four-inch and eight-by-eight-inch pavers at $100 and $250 remain, and checks can be written to American Legion Post 404, 525 N. Collier Blvd., Marco Island, FL 34145.

You have the opportunity to honor all veterans before the grand unveiling by coming to Veterans Community Park on Monday, May 25 for the Memorial Day Ceremony. The event is held at the Unity Bandshell and will start at 11:00 AM.
