United Church Donates to Habitat for Humanity

Posted

On Sunday, April 12, Pastor Ed Brandt of United Church of Marco Island joined Wes Blackwell of the church’s Mission Committee in presenting a $113,000 donation to Peter Johnson of Habitat for Humanity of Collier County. This generous gift represents the culmination of a successful fundraising effort by United Church of Marco Island and its Bargain Basket mission store.

Throughout February and March, church members and Bargain Basket staff collected donations with a shared goal — to raise enough to fund the construction of two new homes this year through Habitat for Humanity of Collier County. Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Marco Island community and the volunteers’ dedication, the fundraising effort achieved its goal.

Habitat for Humanity of Collier County is one of the largest Habitat affiliates in the nation. Since its founding in 1978, the organization has built more than 2,400 homes for families in need of safe, stable, and affordable housing. Each home is a partnership — future homeowners contribute sweat equity and take part in financial education while volunteers and donors make the dream of homeownership possible. Habitat Collier’s mission strengthens communities by giving local families the opportunity to build brighter futures and achieve long-term stability.

The collaboration between United Church of Marco Island, the Bargain Basket, and Habitat for Humanity of Collier County exemplifies the church’s continuing commitment to compassion in action — supporting families and investing in the well-being of the wider Collier County community.

United Church of Marco Island welcomes everyone to worship on Sundays at 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
