Underwater World: The Beauty Beneath

Posted

The Marco Island Historical Society (MIHS) presents Underwater World, The Beauty Beneath, an exhibit featuring oil paintings by Inez Hudson. The exhibit will be at the Marco Island Historical Museum (MIHM) through October 31, 2026. An opening reception with the artist is on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 3:00-5:00 PM. At 3:00 PM, Inez Hudson will host a gallery talk in Rose History Auditorium, followed by the 4:00 PM reception in the gallery. It is free and open to the public. The exhibit is generously sponsored by MIHS Board Member Myrt Rose.

The artist explores the ethereal and beautiful realm of complex life beneath the sea and captures the kaleidoscopic diversity of the underwater world on her canvases with strokes of vibrant color. Dive videos taken by her friends were the inspiration for her paintings.

A self-taught artist, Hudson grew up in Michigan in a large, boisterous family. She found “quiet time” through creating art. Her love of drawing was influenced by the change of seasons, changes in the atmosphere, changes in nature and the many colors that resulted.

Hudson notes that art allows her to visually express her love of life and the natural beauty all around us. She teaches oil painting at the Marco Island Center for the Arts and is a member of The Naples Art Association and Bonita Springs Center for the Arts. She is a juried member of both American Women Artists and Oil Painters of America. Her award-winning work can be found in private collections throughout the U.S. and abroad.

The Marco Island Historical Museum is located at 180 S. Heathwood Drive. The Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission is free and the site is fully ADA compliant and accessible to all visitors. For information call 239-389-6447 or visit www.themihs.org.
