Note the location of the sea turtle and whether it is alive or dead. If the sea turtle is alive, be prepared to stay until help arrives.
On Sunday, March 2, 2025, around 7:00 AM, a beach walker found a dead sea turtle south of the Winterberry Beach Access. I got the call and immediately directed the beach walker to call the FWC Hotline and to the local Police non-emergency number.
According to Mary Toro, Environmental Supervisor of Collier County’s Sea Turtle Program, their team responded to the Sunday call on the South Beach Sea Turtle Stranding. She added that they had seven in the last few weeks and it was probably due to red tide offshore. Usually, phone calls are first placed to the FWC Hotline and then they get the call.
According to the FWC Hotline, if you find a sick, injured, or dead sea turtle, call FWC’s 24-hour Wildlife Alert Number at 1-888-404-FWCC (1-888-404-3922). They will, in turn, alert local partners who are closer to the scene to respond.
